By only taking one small bite of a certain food, one is transported back to childhood: the carefree days when things were as they should be. The sound of unguarded childish laughter, the sight of the first fireflies on a sticky summer’s night, the scent of a mom. For me, it is a meal that i consume most mornings before dashing off to my studies: a banana with pretzels stuck inside it. It could not be a more simple dish, but somehow that makes it even more meaningful. My mother served this dish to me on countless mornings when I was in the process of completing my pre-college education. Little did she know, she was teaching me something that perhaps rivals: dodgeball, discrete math, and abstinence in educational merit and importance. My mother always said, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” and I will be eternally grateful to her for giving me the tools to make it!

Directions: Fairly simple, unpeel a banana and stick several pretzels into it.

Now, hurry on to class! Don’t be late! :)

always recycle!

the finished product.

Two words…MIDTERMS WEEK. On a day when you feel feverish, stressed, and like you just need an escape, what can be better than brownies? After consuming nothing but a bag of microwave popcorn and half of a flat Red Bull, I knew that it was up to me to turn this day around. So, no less than an hour later, I was back at home ready to open a box of Betty Crocker Triple Chunk brownies and get cooking. Let me tell you, the only thing harder than deciding on which brownie mix to buy is trying not to eat all of the batter before you bake them! Fortunately, I opted to use 1 tbsp of cornstarch mixed with 3 tbsp of water as a substitute for an egg; this allowed me not only to cut calories but to lick the spoon free of life-threatening salmonella poisoning! As an added bonus, this amendment to the recipe will give your finished product a texture similar to a stick of fruit leather! What more could you want? Once your batter is ready, the only thing left is to pour it into a greased pan and bake for 30-35 minutes. (Or, if you’re like me, 20 minutes! Really now, who has time to wait 35 minutes for brownies?) Readers, don’t worry if the batter doesn’t fill the pan completely and trails off and that part kinda gets burned, I promise they will be delicious. Plus, they wil certainly fill your stomach completely! :)

Happy Baking!
